Independent Film Quarterly writes:

Brahma has an appetite and talent for self promotion and showmanship. His contemporary art style and unique techniques immediately give way to the inspiration for the work titled, “Heritage of America.” This marvelous painting depicts a kite flying gloriously in the wind as clusters of white clouds move across a blissfully blue sky. Also depicted is the entrance to the White House and a flowing American flag. Aside the flag there is also a bald eagle and to the left is that statue of liberty painted in a cubist technique that Brahma calls “crystalism”. Brahma conveys the great American heritage by symbolically depicting the unadulterated freedom of the American people. Brahma, originally from India, now lives in New York City were he too enjoys this immense freedom.

In 2006 Urban India recognizes Brahma’s consistence and ability as one of the most notable contemporary artist’s of our time, hailing him the “creator of great paintings”.

The Urban India Magazine writes:

Brahma is one of the most original and creative contemporary artists living in New York. His work shows a mastery of many different ideas, color techniques and individualistic style. The figurative concepts and the application of just color compliment each other. Brahma, born in India, started painting at an early age. The artist spent his boyhood painting landscapes and still life objects in water colors. In 1986 he joined Shanthanu’s Chitra Vidyalayam fine arts postal course. In 1992 he joined JNTU Fine Arts College and dropped out after completing the third year. Inspired by old master paintings like “The Last Supper”, “Last Judgement” and “il Sommo Poeta“, he researched extensively on a great subject, and in 1995 did a painting on the theme of Jesus’ birth and the Essence of the Bible.

He posses a sea of artistic and modern creativeness which can be admired through his paintbrush. His subjects vary from portraits to figurative abstract and complete abstractions of reality. Most of his paintings give a message of universal peace and harmony. One painting, which exemplifies his ideals, was painted in 1997 titled “Mother Teresa”, which is a tribute to the sacrifices she made for humanity. In the same year on the eve of the 50 years of Indian Independence, he created a masterpiece titled, Gift of Independence, which symbolizes the process that was undertaken to achieve an independent India.

He has the credit of being the recipient of many prestigious awards. For his every effort to improve the image of art, he was awarded the Cultural Association of Osmania University Best Artist of 2000 Millenium Award.

He was inspired by the legacy and divinity of Pope Jean Paul, who visited India in 1999. That inspiration led him to do a portrait of Pope Jean Paul II titled “Praying for Peace Amidst Storms”, which was homage to the greatness of the Pope. Later in 2000 he created another work titled American Heritage which is symbolic of the American spirit of Liberty and Freedom.

The artist has consistently produced commendable works with various themes and concepts. Motivated by John Keats’ poem “Dream Discerned”, the artist painted a young lady riding a horse and retained the title “Dream Discerned” for the painting. The posture of the lady is very erotic, but the treatment given by the artist is very sensuous and subtle.

To paint Emerald Queen the artist took a cubist approach. The artist’s complete portfolio includes painting titles such as Swan Lake, Blind Musician, Smoke, 3 girls, Hungry Tigers, Valiant War Hero and Law of Jungle.

From December 24, 2000 to January 1, 2001, Brahma exhibited his work at St. Margaret Mary Church in Chicago. In April 2004, he was part of New York Art Festival and created a painting titled Festival Jumble in honor of the event. The artist always responded to social issues through his work. Soon after the September attacks, the artist spread his concerns about global terrorism on a huge canvas with much emotion, intensity and thought. The final result was a painting simply titled “9/11″.

The recent natural disaster, which created colossal damage in South East Asia, created quite a stir in the artist, and made him paint an abstract work title Tsunami. This emotion fueled creation deviated from the artist’s usual style of contemplation before painting. It is more spontaneous, with intense and vigorous brush strokes than usual. The artist is currently working on a series of paintings and plans to exhibit his work in New York. He is a great admirer of former U.S. president Bill Clinton and wants to present his Tsunami painting to his hero.

This painting was presented to the Chief Minister of India, Mr. N Chandrababu Naldu. “A Salute” demonstrates Brahma’s ability to use many different elements to portray a common theme. In this work that theme addressed how the sacrifice of martyrs led to India’s subsequent freedom and continued progress.

The Hindu writes:

The golden jubilee celebrations of the country’s independence have inspired many people. The euphoria generated a spark in a poor young artist who is a also a final year Fine Arts student at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad.

Artist R. Brahma, struggled for a month to give colors and shape to his vision of the motherland. He made a painting and presented it to the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naldu, who hailed the effort of the young man and appreciated his patriotism.

The oil and canvas painting, titled “A Salute” is five feet long and three feet wide.

The black and blue colors at the bottom of the painting symbolize the struggle of the martyrs who laid their lives in the cause of freedom.

The hands in lotus shape painted in red symbolize the “gift of independence” delivered by them in posterity.

The backdrop of the painting reflects the bewitching coral strands of India with its colorful landscape of the Himalyas. The pigeon symbolizes peace and progress.

The feathers of the wings and the tail of the pigeon painted in tri-color stands 50in tall to mark India’s 50 years of freedom.

The trustworthiness, patriotism, truth and upholding of dharma are faithfully depicted in the Ashoka Chakra which forms the head of the pigeon. Indian map adorns the neck of the bird.

Brahma hails from a rural background, being a native of Kanchanpalli village of Warangal district.

Fighting against heavy odds he had so far organized two one-man shows, thanks to the help rendered by the local church here.

He has a healthy collection of more than 30 creative paintings to his credit so far.

Artist Brahma created Heritage of America to symbolize the American spirit of liberty and freedom. The India Tribune highlights Artist Brahma’s ability to capture these sentiments in this and other paintings and his desire to present it to President Bill Clinton.

The India Tribune writes:

Young Andhra Pradesh-born modern painter R. Brahma is in the US to present one of his works- “Heritage of America”- done in oil on a canvas to President Bill Clinton.

Brahma also wants to present another painting – “The Whole Bible”- also done in oil on a convas to Clinton on Christmas Day.

Information about the painting, “Heritage of America” in the name of the American people, was communicated to William V. Parker, counselor for cultural affairs, Embassy of the United States of American in New Dehli. Brahma’s painting was appreciated by the counselor for cultural affairs.

Brahma, who called on India Tribune, last week said that the painting, “Heriage of America”, depicts American Independence, American Eagle, American flag, the White House and the Statue of Liberty, all done in modern art in colors. The painting was done mainly to symbolize the American spirit of liberty, equality and freedom.

Speaking about the painting - ”The Whole Bible” – he said that it tries to find an answer to the question “Why Jesus Christ came to this world?” He said that using English alphabets symbolically, he tried to give a definite explaination to the question. He said that Omnipotent looks through His view depicted in th shape of “V,” only to see the dark red spot of the collective sin of mankind. Mother Mary is depicted by the letter “M”. Infant Jesus is sheltered and magnified by the bright star that leads everyone to the Savior. The painting also represents the Old and New Testament.

Another paint ing – “50 Years of Independent India” – by Brahma symbolizes the incessant struggle of freedom fighters and martyrs who sacraficed their lives for the sake of the motherland. The hands in the shape of a lotus painted in red color symbolize the “Gift of Independence” delivered by the martyrs to the posterity. The backdrop of the painting reflects the coral strands of India with its colorful landscape of the Himalayans. The flying pigeon symbolizes peace and progress. The feathers of the wings and the tail of the pigeon painted in tricolor – 50 in all, mark 50 years of freedom. The painting was ceremoniously presented to Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on Independence day.

Twenty-seven-year-old Brahma has to his credit about 30 creative paintings, including those of “The Birth of Jesus Christ”, “Pope Jean Paul II”, “Mother Teresa” and “Splash Wings in Evening Sun”. He has also done a few “pencil on paper” sketches. He has held half a dozen one-man exhibitions and recieved awards.

He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree awarded by Jawaharlal Nehru University, Hyderbad. He hails from Kanchanpalli village of Warangal district.
